Online Access to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and Financial Times

The Smith College Libraries are pleased to provide complimentary online access to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post for all Smith students, faculty, and staff.

The New York Times

Full text access to current issues and a complete archive. Spanish and Chinese language editions are also available. NYT games and puzzles are not included in this subscription.

To access the New York Times for the first time:

• Go to accessnyt.com
• Search for and select "Smith College – Northampton, MA” You will be redirected to the NYT registration page where you can create an account with your smith.edu email address.
• Account will be fully active once you verify via the confirmation email.
• You will then be able to go directly to nytimes.com or use the NYT app to gain full access with the account you’ve created.
• Faculty and staff will need to renew their account every four years. To do so, go to the libraries’ New York Times link, click on "Already have an account? Log in here" and then reaffirm your faculty or staff status when prompted. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to return to logging in directly on the New York Times site.

The Wall Street Journal

Full-text access to current issues. News and information through the lens of business, finance, economics and global forces that shape the world.

To access the Wall Street Journal for the first time:

• Go through the Databases A-Z list, or use this link.
• The link will send you through the Smith authentication log-in, and then you’ll be prompted to create your own Wall Street Journal account (which does not need to be the same as your Smith log-in; you can use a personal e-mail address).
• You will then be able to go directly to wsj.com or use the WSJ app to gain full access with the account you’ve created. International editions are also available.
• Faculty and staff will need to renew their account annually.

If you would like to cancel a personal subscription now that you have access through the Smith Libraries, call 1-800-Journal.

The Washington Post

Access includes current news coverage from The Post’s expert reporting and analysis from Washington and around the world, as well as historic content dating back to the paper's inception. 

To access the Washington Post: When on the campus IP range, there is no need to sign in. For off-campus access and for added functionality, you can create your own account, but you will need to use a desktop computer to do so before using the mobile app. 

• Using a desktop or laptop computer, on the Washington Post website, select Sign In, then click Sign Up next to Need an account? at the bottom of the sign-in page. From there, create a login with your smith.edu email address, or click Continue with Google.
• Once your account is created, you will receive an email prompting you to verify your email address. If you don't see this right away, be sure to check your spam. Click the button in that email to verify your email address, and then you're all set!
• To access the digitized print archives, log in to your Washington Post account and click Print Archives (Subscribers Only) at the bottom of the Washington Post homepage. 

The Financial Times

News, analysis and opinion on the latest in markets, economics and politics around the world. 

• Go through the Databases A-Z list, or use this link.
• Create an account associated with your Smith College email address.
• After creating an account, you can access from ft.com or the Financial Times mobile app.
