Michael Kinsinger

Mike Kinsinger, a chemical engineer by training, teaches in both the Picker Engineering Program and the chemistry department. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis of multifunctional polymers for controlling interfacial phenomena at liquid crystal-aqueous interfaces. His training in materials and colloid science led him to a research and development position with the Clorox company for four years prior to coming to Smith in 2014.

In the chemistry department, Kinsigner primarily teaches general chemistry (CHM 111) and organic chemistry (CHM 222) laboratories. For the Picker Engineering Program, he has taught several introductory courses, including Fundamental Engineering Principles (EGR 110), Mechanics (EGR 270), and Thermodynamics (EGR 290), as well as a technical depth course in Materials Science (EGR 390). In all of his courses, he strives to engage students through bringing real engineering examples into the classroom to teach core engineering principles.
